8 volunteers killed in major landslide in Gilgit Baltistan

A massive landslide in Gilgit, triggered by recent rains, claimed the lives of eight volunteers who were working to restore a water channel. Around 15 volunteers were engaged in the restoration work near Danyore Nullah when the landslide struck, burying them under debris.

Rescue teams and local residents rushed to the site, managing to recover six bodies and pull nine people out alive. Sadly, two of the injured later succumbed to their wounds.

The deceased and injured were shifted to a nearby hospital, where officials reported that most of the wounded were in critical condition.

According to Gilgit-Baltistan government spokesman Faizullah Faraq, the tragedy took place around midnight.

GB Baltistan chief minister has expressed sorrow and grief over the tragic incident and directed the authorities to accelerate the relief work.

The spokesman said an emergency was declared in all the hospitals in Gilgit following the incident.
