NDMA issues alert for heavy rains, risk of urban flooding in Karachi

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather alert warning of heavy rainfall in Karachi and Hyderabad from August 24 to 28, with possible risks of urban flooding, power outages, and service disruptions.

According to the advisory, Hyderabad is expected to witness heavy downpours with thunder and lightning, increasing the chances of flooding in urban areas.

Karachi is also forecast to receive significant rainfall starting Thursday night.

NDMA has urged citizens to take precautionary measures, including avoiding waterlogged roads, staying away from electric poles, and handling electrical appliances with care.

It further advised residents to ensure proper drainage around their homes to prevent water accumulation and, particularly in low-lying areas, to keep emergency kits ready with essentials such as food, drinking water, flashlights, and first aid supplies.
