Mild earthquake jolts Gilgit and surrounding areas

Light tremors jolted Gilgit, Skardu, Astore and adjoining areas on Sunday, causing brief panic among residents. According to the Seismological Center, the quake was recorded at 3.7 magnitude on the Richter scale, with a depth of 25 kilometers.
Its epicenter was located 34 kilometers southwest of Skardu.
Residents rushed outdoors as the tremors were felt, though no casualties or major damage were reported.
Authorities confirmed that the earthquake did not cause any significant disruption but said monitoring of the situation is ongoing.
This was the second earthquake to hit Gilgit-Baltistan in recent weeks.
In August, the region experienced a 5.4 magnitude tremor at a depth of 122 kilometers.
Its epicentre was recorded in the Hindu Kush region, approximately 102 kilometres from Bajaur.
The tremors were felt in Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Affected cities included Lahore, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Haripur, Abbottabad, Charsadda, Mingora (Swat), Hazara Division, as well as areas of Hatian Bala, Jhelum Valley, and Chinari.
