Highlighting the heavy cost of not constructing dams on the country’s agriculture sector, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur said on Tuesday that the Kalabagh Dam could bring a transformative impact.

Addressing the media, Gandapur emphasized that politics should not interfere with the dam project, which, if completed, could become a major asset for the country. “We should work collectively on this,” he stated.

He added that the water resources allocation for each province is fixed.

“No province will lose its share of water due to the construction of the dam,” the CM clarified, noting that the project would benefit KP, Punjab, and Sindh alike.

Gandapur also suggested that if the dam is constructed at Munda, no population displacement would be necessary.

“It’s important to remember that people had to be relocated when Tarbela and Mangla dams were built,” he remarked.

The chief minister was of the view that the provincial government was not fully prepared to combat terrorism.

“In Bajaur, people not only pay ransom to the Taliban, but also serve them food,” the chief minister disclosed.

He said that the Taliban had grown in numbers in Bajaur.
