Sindh on High Alert Following Cyclone Warning

The Met Office has reported that the existing low-pressure system in the Arabian Sea has intensified into a depression and is present at 400kms south of the coast.

The system prompted the Tropical Cyclone Warning Center Karachi to issue an alert on Friday.

According to the Met Office, the depression is positioned at 21.0° North latitude and 67.9° East longitude, moving within the Arabian Sea.

The weather system is expected to influence coastal districts of Sindh with rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds within next 24 hours.

Light rain and lightning are likely in Tharparkar, Umerkot, Badin, Thatta, Sajawal, Tando Muhammad Khan, Hyderabad, Matiari, Jamshoro and Karachi.

Residents in these areas have been advised to take precautions as the unstable weather continued.

The Met Office warned of strong winds blowing at 40–50 kilometres per hour near the Sindh coast.

Alongside, high sea waves and bad weather conditions are expected to make the Arabian Sea unsafe for small vessels and fishing boats.

Fishermen have been strictly advised not to venture into the deep sea until October 3.

Coastal and port authorities have also been put on high alert, with relevant agencies instructed to stay vigilant for any emergency situation.
