Two Fatalities Reported in Punjab Due to Rain-Related Incidents
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) announced on Monday that two people were fatally injured due to incidents involving rain and high winds across Punjab over the past 24 hours.
The bad weather also resulted in injuries to 14 individuals and caused structural damage to 10 buildings, according to the Authority’s report.
Reviewing the statistics released by the PDMA, the heaviest rainfall was recorded in Multan, with 113 millimeters, followed by Faisalabad, which saw 78 millimeters. Other key figures included 44 mm in Bahawalpur, 40 mm in Lahore, and 28 mm in Khanewal.
Sialkot and Toba Tek Singh both received 25 mm, while Jhelum got 18 mm. Attock, Gujranwala, Murree, and Sahiwal each received 8 mm.
A spokesman for the PDMA further detailed that rain is anticipated to continue across most of the province over the next 24 hours.
Districts likely to experience new showers include Rawalpindi, Murree, Galyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujranwala, Lahore, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Okara, Sahiwal, Kasur, Jhang, Sargodha, and Mianwali.
He informed that due to rains, there would be an increase in water levels in rivers Jhelum, Chenab and Indus, streams and nullahs.
“However, an increase in water levels in rivers Sutlej and Ravi depends upon the release of water by India,” the spokesman informed.
On the other hand, DG PDMA Irfan Ali Kathia said that commissioners, deputy commissioners and other officers were on high alert.
He advised the people to take precautionary measures in view of inclement weather. “In case of an emergency, contact on helpline number 1129.”
